Vegan Halloween Shortbread!

With Halloween and baking being two of my favourite things, I thought why not combine them and create some delicious treats!

To get the Halloween inspired shapes I wanted, I decided to buy some cookie cutters. I bought a big pack from Lidl for around £1-£2 and they did the job great. They create quite small cookies but they’re the perfect size for children to enjoy.

  • 250g plain flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 225g butter (I used pure spread)
  • 100g caster sugar

  • Preheat the oven to 170c.
  • Beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Combine both sets of ingredients.
  • Chill the dough for around 10-15 minutes.
  • Roll dough out until at desired thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  • Use the cutters to create your shapes then place onto a baking tray.
  • Bake in the over for 10-15 minutes and until they’re golden brown.

I left my shortbread in for 10 minutes and due to some of them being a thinner biscuit, they browned slightly on the edges. Try to ensure all of the cookies are the same size or remove some from the oven once they’re cooked. Nonetheless, they still look cute and fun and they’re really delicious!

Happy Halloween!

Plus Size Halloween Look Book

I am a plus size girl so I decided to put together this look book for any other plus size Halloween fashion lovers out there. Another thing is, I am a skint student! So unfortunately I do not have these clothes in real life so I will just be using images from the websites although in the future I would love to do a try on look book.

The first item is an oversized jumper that says ‘Mwahahaha’. This is from ASOS in the Curve range for £30 and can be found here. I love how cosy and slouchy this jumper is, it would be so nice to wear lounging around the house. I also love this because it isn’t too ‘Halloweeny’ so could be worn all year round if you wanted to.

This shirt is also from ASOS although it is from the standard range. It is £14 and can be found here. This is another piece that is versatile enough to be worn all year round. It seems appropriate to be worn at Halloween due to the forest and large moon although it is also casual enough that it can be worn at any time.

This body is from ASOS, costing £14 and can be found here. I think this body is so cute! I love the little bats and the fact it’s a body suit makes it great for layering, especially at this time of year.

This shirt is from BooHoo and costs £10. It can be found here. This shirt is quite popular this year, I am seeing this style pop up everywhere. It is a nice twist on the general ‘X-Ray’ skeleton shirt that comes out annually. I like this one too because it is really loose rather than super tight and makes it comfortable and cute.

This dress is from BooHoo, costs £12 and can be found here. This dress is another piece that can be worn all year round due to it’s design. I would personally wear this to a party with some black heels to dress it up or I would dress it down with some tights and boots to give it a more casual feel during the day.

These props are from Missguided and cost £10. They can be found here. So these are not actually a clothing item and may not have a place in a look book but I just think these are a great idea! They’re so fun and would go down a treat at a party. They will also liven up any pictures you take during the holidays.

I hope you enjoyed this look book and got some inspiration for your fashion throughout the Halloween period! I am hoping to change up the way I do look books in the future but first I may need a real job.

Favourite Halloween Films and Series!

So it’s my favourite time of the year, Halloween!! Not only do I love Halloween but I love everything scary, creepy and gory. I thought I would compile my favourite Halloween films and series just in case anyone else wants a thrilling watch.

1: The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Is this a Halloween or a Christmas film? I like Christmas and Halloween so I choose to watch it from October through to December. This is one of my favourite films in the world, it is just a nice feel good, festive film and it’s one that can be watched with kids. It isn’t scary at all and is one that you don’t really have to focus on and can have on in the background whilst you’re doing other things. I also love Tim Burton so anything he does, I am sure to love.

2: The Ring.

The Ring is another of my favourite Halloween films although this one is a real horror film rather than an animated, fun one. This is one of the few films that whenever someone says they haven’t seen it, I convince them we have to watch it there and then. This film is so creepy and the story is so interesting to follow along with.

3: Saw.

Whilst the Saw films get a lot of stick for how crap they are, I love them. Yes, of course they are repetitive and the story doesn’t make sense a lot of the time but I just love them. I remember staying in my friends summer house from around the ages of 13-15 and without fail we would watch the saw films every time. They are quite an easy watch and although they are gory, they do have a story so the gore doesn’t take over the whole film. I do have to say though; my favourite of the films are number 2 and 5. They are both set in houses with groups of people that have to perform certain tasks to be able to get out of the house. I find these two films are the most thrilling and interesting out of the bunch and they grab my attention for the longest.

4: Scream Queens.

Scream Queens is such a great programme and even if you don’t like scary films/programmes, you should definitely watch this. It was created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck (the creators of Glee and American Horror Story) and it is described as a comedy horror series. It is so tongue in cheek and silly and whilst it does have it’s creepy bits, there are no jump scares so it is quite an easy watch. It also features lots of twists and turns and keeps you guessing throughout as to who the red devil is. Series two started this week in the United Kingdom so I cannot wait to get stuck into it!

5: The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I was introduced to this cult classic through my Dad as he loves it and actually I saw the stage show first, that was an experience! I would recommend watching the film first to ease you in as it is quite dirty and whilst it isn’t a horror as such, it is strange and quirky and a whole lot of fun. I would also totally recommend going to see the stage show as it is nothing like any other musical I have seen before and it’s something you won’t forget. This film isn’t for anyone who doesn’t like musicals as that is exactly what it is but it isn’t the typical kind of mushy musical (which I love btw), it is definitely an acquired taste.

6: El Orfanato.

I know I have said this about all of the films in this list but I really do love El Orfanato. As you can tell by the title, this film is Spanish and was actually directed by Guillermo Del Toro, who I love and trust. I love a lot of his other films and that’s the reason I picked this one up. This film is all in Spanish so if you are not into watching a film where you have to read subtitles, you will not like this one, but I don’t mind that so much. The story is so gripping and I like that you really have to follow it or you will miss small details that are important. This is another film that I force everyone I know to watch because I love it so much, I just did not guess the ending at all! It really kept me on my toes throughout.

7: The Conjuring 2.

This film is one of the most recent and it is so good. I was not a fan of the first Conjuring film. When it first got released, it was very hyped up and I did not understand at all, I think I expected a little too much at the time but it was full of jump scares and wasn’t to my tastes at all. The Conjuring 2 was totally different, the story was much more interesting and I personally think this meant they didn’t need to include as many jump scares throughout. Don’t worry though, if you like a jump scare, there are still some dotted throughout this film! I just like it when a film includes clues throughout that don’t seem like they mean much at the time but they tie it together perfectly at the end, and this film did that well.

8: Stranger Things.

If you don’t know what Stranger Things is, where have you been?! This programme came out very recently and it is very popular all over social media. I would recommend this programme to anyone, it is ever so slightly creepy but the story throughout is just so amazing. When I started this programme I didn’t think I would like it very much as it has an “alien” undertone and films based around aliens are just not my cup of tea. I was totally wrong and got hooked very quickly. It is a great programme that really tugs on your heart strings and it is just great. I do not want to give away too much of the story as I implore you to go and watch it but I will say it sets up for a second series very nicely so I am very much looking forward to that.

9: Mirrors.

It has been a really long time since I watched this film but I remember being so creeped out. It is about mirrors and for a long time after watching it, I was scared to look in a mirror so I haven’t watched this film since. It has really stuck with me and maybe this year is the year that I will watch it again but I don’t want to scar myself for another few months!

10: Marble Hornets.

My final favourite is Marble Hornets. If you haven’t heard of this series, it is on Youtube and when you type Marble Hornets into the search bar you will find a playlist containing all of the episodes. This series is based upon the Urban Legend, Slender man. If you do not know who/what Slender man is, then go looking. It is a very interesting story and this series is so cleverly filmed and, similarly to Mirrors, it kept me looking over my shoulder for weeks. It is creepy and contains the occasional jump scare which I can appreciate when used sparingly. It is also filmed in really small clips so it is easy to watch and can be easily picked up if you need to stop after a couple of episodes.

Hope you enjoyed this little list and I hope you get some inspiration for your Halloween movie nights!
