My 21st Birthday

My 21st Birthday has recently been and gone and I thought I would share with you all the fun me and my family had celebrating.

My official birthday was on Thursday the 16th of June and I didn’t have much planned so me and my partner, Joe, decided to go to the Trafford Centre for some dinner. We went to Zizzi’s and had the most gorgeous vegan pizza (highly recommend, even if you aren’t vegan).

We then decided to go for an impromptu cinema date to see The Conjuring 2, which so far is the best horror film I have seen in a long time. I don’t often see horror films at the cinema so it could be the unfamiliarity of not being at home or the fact that it is so dark and loud in there that made it scarier but all in all it had a great storyline and I thought it was a much better film than the first instalment of the series.

On Friday we had my cousin, nephew and Mum come round to stay the night as we were taking part in a 5k mud run on Saturday for Cancer Research. We decided to have a quiet night in so we could feel prepared and ready for the race.

We woke up bright and early on the Saturday as the start of our race time was 10:15am. We were joined at our house by my older brother, sister in law and my niece and nephew and we soon set off.IMG_0611

It was only me, my mum, my cousin (Samantha) and my sister in law (Claire) taking part in the run and the boys and children came along for moral support. The picture above is before we started the race in the Cancer Research “Photo Booth”.

The race was 5km long with muddy obstacles all around the course. We completed it in about an hour due to me and my mum lagging behind but we both now have the bug and want to do some more mus runs in the future. I would also love to be able to beat our time and do the race again next year. The images below document a couple of the obstacles we had to tackle and just how muddy we really did get. Even though I was aching for days after, the experience of getting over the finish line was amazing.

As if we hadn’t already done enough by 11am on a Saturday morning, we decided to all head back to mine with my Dad and younger brother (who joined us at the race) in tow and have a small buffet. My Mum’s birthday is on the 25th of June and she lives in Leeds so we decided to take the opportunity, whilst we were all in the same place, and celebrate both of our birthdays together.

I made a range of vegan goodies for me and Joe to have and my Mum brought some non-vegan food for anyone that didn’t fancy what we made. My Mum also bought me a specially made vegan cake from the vegan cakery. It was vanilla sponge covered in butter cream and I couldn’t even tell that it was vegan. It looked stunning on the outside but when you cut into it it got even better, the sponge was all different colours. Due to transportation across the country, the cake looks a little worse for wear in my image but believe me, it was delicious!!IMG_0610

As both me and my Mum were celebrating I decided to make her a vegan cake. I previously found a vanilla vegan cake recipe and, through trial and error, have edited it until it makes my perfect cake. I also decided to add a layer of peanut butter in the middle of the cake as that is my Mum’s favourite flavour. It may not look as nice as the cake she got me but she said it tasted good.IMG_0608

To top off an already amazing and jam packed weekend, it was Father’s Day on the Sunday so to celebrate we met my family including my Grandma and Granddad at The Whaletail cafe in Lancaster for some lunch. I had the most delicious sausage, beans and chips and me and Joe shared a slice of chocolate cake to finish and whilst I do not live in Lancaster anymore, I love to pay the Whaletail a visit whenever I return.
